An RP between Kris'tran and Lawson with lilwyverngirl as Kris'tran and switt as Lawson.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

It had been a hectic and horrible set of days for Kris'tran in Aryn. What made things worse for the young male was that he was fairly new himself - so all the new faces felt daunting and threatening. Not only that - but nearly all the wolves that have crossed into the pack to become members had been male. How such a thing could be possible when the scales could be tipped evenly was beyond the young adult male and it make him incredibly twitchy and nervous.

He had decided to lay low in his den and hoped to creep out of the hole unnoticed by anyone in the morning. Kris'tran's stomach clenched with hunger for he had not eaten at all for two days. As the first rays of the sun peeked into the den site, Kris poked his nose out of his den, snuffling about for any sign of wolves being present. Unfortunately he couldn't tell over the strong scents left from wolves coming and going.

With a deep breath to steel his nerves, he crept out of his den like a rabbit would out of its warren, stiff and eyes alert before trotting quickly across the clearing, hoping to go unnoticed.

----------
switt said the following:

It had been event filled couple of days. Not only had he entered a brand new territory, he found a pack, somehow became a member, and was meeting all sorts of new people! Quite an efficient place. Nerves and excitement were churning in his stomach all night so he barely slept a wink, which explained why he was awake at first light. Typically, he was the last one to bed and the last one awake.

The young male decided to take advantage of the quiet morning to explore a bit. He was still new to the territory and logic told him it wouldn't be wise to explore the far corners without one of more established members. To satisfy his curiosity, he remained within eyesight of the main den, aimlessly wandering in all directions. The sun rays were giving some much needed warmth, the dew sparking in their light. It was a picturesque morning.

Unfortunately for Kris, he didn't make it in time. As he was strolling back, the movement caught his attention, trotting to get a better look. Tilting his head to the side curiously, he broke into a smile when he realized it was another wolf. Lawson had seen him around the area but never got to do a proper introduction. He broke out into a run after him, resisting the urge to yell a greeting in case it woke everyone else.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

The drumming sound of paws on the ground made Kris'tran's head bolt upright and turn around to see who was coming after him. His heart nearly skipped a beat as it launched into his throat upon seeing a large, dark brown wolf that reminded him of the first male he'd seen of Aryn. Panic overwhelmed him and he suddenly launched into a run. It didn't occur to the terrified young male that the other wolf had a friendly and eager expression on their face. That was lost on Kris'tran's overly paranoid state.

Kris bee-lined straight for the Wispwood, hoping to lose his pursuer in the marshes. But Kris hadn't been in the pack lands long. Inexperience and panic caused him to be clumsy and his large paws caught on a protruding root just at the edge of the forest and he face-planted into the ground. Hard.

As the world spun for a moment, Kris realized the time he was using to reorient himself was time that his pursuer could use to catch up to him. When his moment of disorientation faded, Kris'tran turned and flattened himself to the ground in a full display of submission, his eyes wide and teeth bared in fear aggression. "Don't hurt me!" he whined, his pupils dilated to the point that it was hard to tell what color his eyes were anymore. "I'm not a danger!"

----------
switt said the following:

Any inkling that the other wolf was trying to run away was completely lost. To him, this was just a game – stretch their legs, explore the land, and bond through fun. Just as Kris was fuelled by sheer panic, Lawson’s desire to meet him knew no bounds. There was a moment where he wondered why the smaller canine was sprinting, but alas, the thought disappeared as quickly as it game. With a grunt, he lengthened his stride to pick up speed as he hoped to reach him before the Wispwood.

Laws was quickly gaining ground due to his much longer stride. Just as he was about to call out in greeting, he skidded to a halt, digging his paws into the ground so he wouldn’t collide with the fallen brown male. The thud was sickening and he couldn’t help but cringe, closing his eyes and shaking his head in sympathy. Clicking his tongue, he trotted towards him with a small laugh. “Wow, are you all right? That was one sick-“
He stopped moving and talking immediately, raising an eyebrow. One black paw was left dangling as he looked around uncomfortably. What was this guy doing? Laws lowered his head to get a closer look then snapped it back up in surprise at his snarl, stumbling back a step or two, nearly falling to the ground himself. “Danger? What are you even talking about?” A frown appeared on his handsome face and he sighed rather dramatically. “Look, relax. I… I’m not going to hurt you. What’s your name?”

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Kris'tran stopped baring his teeth but still stayed flat on the ground, eying the other wolf suspiciously. "But you chased me!" Kris'tran said accusingly with a whine. "Dear sir, my name is Kris'tran, of hearted spirit. Though I suppose not too hearted after all..." His eyes were round and dilated still with fear, not moving now that the other wolf had backed up a bit from him. Kris' body shook with nerves and fear.

"What, dear sir, is your name?" He asked nervously. "You are of Aryn, yes? I have yet to meet all of the wolves who have come to add to the ranks of the mountained pack."

----------
switt said the following:

His gold gaze stared down at him blankly, utterly confused until it dawned on him why Kris ran. With the realization, he threw his head back and laughed, taking a second to regain his composure. "I wasn't trying to chase you down or anything! I simply wanted to say hello. No need to be so...twitchy."

He stared at the smaller male with a quizzical look, mouth slightly ajar. Law wasn't use to hearing such a formal tone or words, especially directed at the likes of him. This was getting more and more interesting! Blinking to regain his composure, he settled into a seated position, lazily raising a back leg to scratch at his ears.

"Oh, uh, yeah, I'm a new member," he answered with a raised eyebrow. Their language barrier was quite humorous. it almost felt like he had to translate his proper speech into a more casual slang. Huh. "The name's Lawson, but you can call me Law or Laws. Doesn't really matter to me," he added with a shrug.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

The other wolf's explanation seemed suspicious to Kris'tran still but he allowed himself to ease a bit and his ears loosened their hold on his skull while his pupils returned to normal. He listened carefully as the other wolf introduced himself in a casual way. Kris'tran didn't really care how the other wolf talked - he was just not used to the way things were said here in Aryn yet. Kris had come from far, far away and was well aware that sometimes he was difficult to understand and nodded to Lawson as he finished.

"I see, Sir Laws," Kris'tran said with a dip of his head. "You may call me, ahhh, Kris then if that is of ease for you. It was what my siblings would call me." The dark male unflattened himself a little, though kept his stance low and tense. Just because he was less frightened didn't quite yet mean he was going to trust this other wolf yet. Too much had happened to him in the past for his nerves to be eased so quickly.

"I apologize if my speech is, ahhh, brokened to you. I came from far before our Lady Athena allowed me to join. I have yet to learn all the proper ways to speak."

----------
switt said the following:

The way Kris spoke was interesting, to say the least. They were complete opposites in most things – Kris was proper, apprehensive, and nervous. Lawson, on the other hand, was lazy, bold, and improper with his speech. One thing he was having trouble with in Aryn was addressing wolves of higher ranks with titles. It wasn’t like it was out of disrespect but he was more familiar with the classic Alpha and Alphess titles. Here, there was Lady, Sir, Madam, Dame… He was having a hard time keeping track who was who. Kris, thankfully, was the same rank as him and helped him relax a bit.

Sir? Oh no, please don’t call me that. It sounds too serious!”  He lifted a paw and lazily made circles in the air with a roll of his eyes. “You don’t need to be proper with me. Or apologize, for that matter.” Laws blinked slowly, again trying to translate what exactly Kris was saying. Perhaps he could learn a thing or two from the small, nervous pack mate. “Anyway, enough chit chat. What are you doing up so early?”

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

The dark brown wolf tilted his head to the side as Lawson told him there was no need to be proper. Kris'tran didn't think he was really being "proper" at all, just polite. Maybe later on he would learn what this word "proper" meant. "Okay Laws," Kris said, this time omitting the title "sir." Might as well do what he can to keep this other wolf in a jovial mood - Kris didn't want to have any of the wolves here in Aryn start to not like him or pick on him. There were too many bad memories in his past for him to try to make new bad memories.

Laws' question struck Kris'tran as unsettling though, especially because he knew it may lead to him mentioning his past. He gave an uneasy glance back toward the direction of the den site before looking up at Lawson again. "I, ahhh," what should he say? Tell the truth? Might as well get it over with. "I didn't want anyone to see me. It is not that I am, ahhhh, foul wolf. I have foul memories I care not to drag back up with company. Not that you are foul wolf either! I just don't know..." Kris trailed off and looked at the ground. He really didn't want to explain what had happened to himself so he decided to stop mentioning it.

"I was going to explore a little before the pack started on their daily patrols, that's all." Was that really all? Certainly it was more of the former than the latter, but Kris didn't want to seem boring by not wanting to do anything but avoid his packmates.

----------
switt said the following:

The lack of sir put a smile on the young adult's face. His new friend seemed so uptight and unsure; Laws wanted to do what he could to help me relax. Kris would soon learn that it took a lot to make him displeased.

Things were just getting more and more confusing. Once again, he tilted his head and peered at him, trying to get a good read. Something about his past, or memories as he put it, was causing him to slink away in the early morning. Well, you know what misery needs? Company! And gosh darn it, Laws was going to be just that. Whether it was misery or company, poor Kris was going to be subjected to it anyway.

"Hey, me too! Let's go together!" he exclaimed, jumping to his feet, waging his tail slightly. "It's better to go together since I'm really familiar with the area yet." It was decided and he wasn't going to take no for an answer.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

If Kris could look crestfallen without having been hopeful, he would have. But instead he shrank away once again as Lawson decided to keep him company. But Kris was also too polite to tell the other wolf to go away, so with ears still flat and nervous he agreed to let the other wolf join him. "I suppose if you want to..." It was clear that Kris'tran was just being polite but he really didn't want the company. Then again, from Lawson's disposition Kris didn't think that the other wolf would have taken no for an answer anyway.

He turned back toward the Wispwood, his ears flicked forward as he thought about where he wanted to go. "I was thinking of following the river east as far as the border before coming back. I don't want to be out and idle for too long. I do not want to disappoint our Lady by being idle." Kris'tran padded forward, his tail still low, heading for the riverbank and padding up along the edge of the water, his wide paws keeping him from sinking in the sticky mud.

----------
switt said the following:

He was tempted to laugh triumphantly. Despite the rather obvious signals poor Kris was sending, Laws didn't see them - or chose simply to ignore him - and forced to accompany him. It made complete sense; the two were the only ones awake and both wanting to explore the area, so why not do it together? Besides, Kris seemed like a responsible wolf, which meant there was less chance of them getting loss. He smiled at his own logic.

Lost in his own thoughts, it took him a second to realize Kris had started without him. Quickly catching up with his long stride, he slowed to match his pace, nodding in agreement. "I agree. I wouldn't want to piss off Sir Alcatraz either. To be honest, he scares the crap out of me," he confessed with a shiver. Laws stopped to examine the river front and followed behind, moving not as gracefully as his partner.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Kris'tran turned and watched Lawson hurry after him, trying not to lose his footing on the slick mud. If Kris'tran hadn't been so nervous in the presence of this other male, he would have found Lawson's attempts to flounder after him humorous. Instead, he felt nervous by the presence of the other wolf. Knowing that Lawson was persistent, he decided to try to leave his negative feelings at bay.

He also knew about the other wolf's nervousness about Sir Alcatraz. Kris'tran is scared enough of the big, burly wolf that he didn't need to meet Sir Alcatraz to be piss-scared of the Warden. "He is a mountained wolf, that is true. Much strength." Kris padded out to drier banks as they followed the river. The trees were thinner along the northern bank, which was where they were padding. It probably wouldn't be long before they broke through the trees as long as Kris set a brisk pace. The woods around them looked eerie in the morning fog, though he really liked the feel of the cool mist on his fur.

He turned to cast a stray glance at Lawson. "Do you chase fish?" he asked casually. Not that Kris'tran knew how to actually fish. He just liked chasing them. "I like to watch them and chase them sometimes. I do not know if that is a typical thing to do. But it is, enjoyable, I would say."

----------
switt said the following:

Graceful was the last word to describe him trudging through the mud. He spread his toes as far as he could in an attempt to get better footing, but it was all in vain. His front leg slipped and he came crashing down, slamming his bottom jaw and chest into the mud. Murmuring angrily, he managed to get back up, and after a second was laughing. "At least it matches my fur." He knelt down to sit in the water then stood, shaking to get rid of the mess.

He was silently grateful when they reached the dry banks. Hopefully that was the only embarrassing thing that would happen on their trip. Laws nodded in agreement about the warden. "He was the first wolf I met when I joined. Yeah, he found me at the boarders. It was a heck of a time trying to convince him to see Lady Athena." The memory was clear as day.

He blinked at the small male, raising an eyebrow in utter confusion. "Chase fish?" he asked slowly. "No, no, can't say I have..." The brown male pondered the thought for a moment. "Sounds like it's a lot of work. And you find it fun? Hmm."

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Kris couldn't help but flinch at Lawson's fall into the mud. But he waited patiently for the male on the dry bank as he padded up. "I am glad I did not actually meet him when I saw Sir Alcatraz before joining Aryn." He eyed Lawson as the other confessed he'd never chased fish. Well, the other wolf appeared to need to rinse his fur out, there was no better time to go chasing fish.

"I suppose it is exercise. Fish make it interesting. They just keep swimming back," Kris padded out into the river, the cool feel of the water felt good on his pads and waded in until he was in half as deep as his calves. Then he stood still, waiting for the fish to return. Not many moments passed before a couple fish began to congregate around his legs. "See? They don't know I'm here." He then lunged forward and the fish scattered. "They swim away only when disturbed."

He waited for the fish to cogregate again as he spoke to Lawson. "I wait for the fish to come to me and then I see how far I can follow one until I lose it." Kris looked down into the water, to see how many fish had come back. There were a couple there, sheltering under his shadow.

----------
switt said the following:

His cheeks felt hot in embarrassment though he tried to play it off. He was a bit thankful Kris hadn't burst out laughing when he fell. Then again, if he had, the reaction may have sent Laws into a state of shock to know Kris had a sense of humor. "Who found you then?" he asked curiously. Everyone seemed to have a different story about how they got accepted and he was nosy.

Lawson looked at his companion skeptically, lowering to his haunches as he watched. The whole concept seemed rather boring. "They probably keep coming back because they're not very smart." Head tilted, his eyes focused on the small group of fish under Kris's shadow. Curiosity was starting to get the better of him and he stood, slowly walking into the water so he was as deep in as Kris.

It didn't take long for some fish to collect themselves around his paws. He lifted one out of the water and slammed it down, sending water droplets into the air, and fish scattering in all directions. He chucked quietly and waited for more to come back.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

"Gamma Charaka found me," he said, watching the fish as they gathered again. "She was at the end of the patrol that Sir Alcatraz was leading. I probably would not be here if that mountained male had found me." Kris'tran shuddered.

He turned his head to watch Lawson paw curiously at the fish that gathered under his shadow. Kris wondered to himself why he was showing this wolf his little game. Perhaps he was starting to feel less threatened by this wolf? Surely. But he wasn't about to admit such to himself just yet. There were too many scars that needed to start healing before he could actually accept this "Laws" as a friend. But at least he was beginning to try.

"Now this is what I really do," he said, turning his eyes to the fish and looking for a large enough one that it would leap away from him as he chased it. Then he lunged for it, the fish leaping out in a panic as he chased it close enough to the shore that its frantic splashing was visible. His jaws kept snapping and mouthing toward the fish as he chased it before it whipped into deeper water and disappeared from his view. That was when he stopped chasing it, dregged in water up to his shoulders from all his splashing. He had a big grin on his face as his breathing came faster from the effort of pushing through the water.

"I have never tried to catch a fish," he admitted honestly. "I do not know they are good meat to eat. No one ate fish where I was from. But they seem to think I will try to eat them. It is a humored thing to do for me."

----------
switt said the following:

Lawson shuddered right with him. “Yeah, you probably would have run for the hills. I mean, I’m a pretty social, tough guy,” he said with a puffed out chest. “But oh man, he gave me a once over.”

It was nice to bond like this. Kris still seemed too nervous and uncomfortable – that was it! At this moment, he made it his mission for them to be close friends. He was going to have to work even harder to get Kris to let down his guard and really open up. Little did he know the horrors of his friend’s past; it was going to take more than determination for the smaller male to trust him.

Water droplets splashed across his face as his attention was pulled from the fish by his paws to Kris. With his jaw dropped, he watched with wide eyes as he chased after the fish, and then a smile formed on his mouth. “Go Kris! Catch that fish!” he shouted, laughing with each word. Kris looked ridiculous chasing after the fish but gosh, it looked like so much fun! Shaking his head, he trotted over to the deeper water.

“That was hilarious. Way to go, buddy!” The fish scattered after the commotion and small waves were crashing on the bank. “Fish aren’t that bad. They’re pretty bony and hard to catch, as you just demonstrated.” He couldn’t stop laughing and wiped tears from his eyes.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Lawson's laughing startled Kris and as the other male trotted up, he skittered away nervously, though he gave the other male a weak smile at his encouraging words. Fish didn't sound like a good thing to eat however and he flicked his ears. "I don't think I would particularly enjoy a fish to eat then." He watched the crashing waves and the tails of departing fish as they whipped the water in their haste to depart.

Kris looked up to the sky and saw the sun was rising higher into the sky. It looked like his temporary foray into the river to play had wasted enough time that the two of them may be missed as assignments were doled out. He flicked his ears before turning to Lawson. "I think it is time we returned Sir Laws. Else we shall be late."

----------
switt said the following:

Lawson was still laughing and was having a hard trouble containing them. Once again, he seemed completely oblivious to Kris's discomfort, nodding his head. "Some wolves like them but I'd take a deer any day." His face brightened with a memory. "One time, my sister Erin dared me to swallow a small fish whole when we were pups. I do not recommend it," he said with a grimace and a shiver. He didn't talk to her for a while after that one.

Was it that late already? He looked towards the sky and frowned, disappointed their fun was at an end and duty was calling. He sighed dramatically then smiled brightly, cautiously walking out of the river, wanting to avoid falling in the mud again. "You're right - we don't want to get yelled at." Laughing, he glanced over his shoulder at Kris. "C'mon, I'll race you back!"

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Live fish? Kris didn't think it was a very nice thing to eat something alive and he was sure it was probably very uncomfortable. He didn't say anything about it though - he would definitely not eat a live fish himself anyway.

But Kris'tran flicked his ears uneasily at the rest of Lawson's comment and challenge to race. Kris didn't like competing, mostly because his father said he was worthless. "Ahhh, no you can run ahead if you wish. I am not rivered of speed." He wasn't too keen on the race, but he trotted off toward the main den site anyway rather than running. He didn't want to be missed for the duties needed to be done around Aryn.

----------
switt said the following:

That change he did notice. Lawson stared at him with a hard stare. He frowned deeply and opened his mouth to say something then thought better of it. Something about his challenge had upset Kris and gosh, was he dying to find out why.

No, Lawson, don't do that. He's a nervous guy as it is! It's not worth sending him off the deep end. Shaking the feeling off, he started back up after Kris, bumping him playfully with a smile to help lighten the mood. "Thanks for hanging out with me this morning."

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Kris'tran was relieved when Lawson didn't push the subject. It was a little early for the young male to accept the other male's overt attempts at being friends. As the larger male playfully bumped his shoulder, Kris again skittered away, but not quite as far as before and gave the other male a weak smile.

"I suppose it is I who should be thankful as I was the one slinking out. You seem of good spirit - mayhap someday again we will have the time to know one another better Sir Laws." He dipped his head as they hurried back to the den site.

Maybe Lawson wasn't so bad. Who knows - maybe another day they would have the time to know one another better and perhaps even be friends? But for now, Kris was just comfortable with nervous interaction.

----------
switt said the following:

Shoot, he went too far again. He gave Kris an apologetic smile for the bump but said nothing else. In his mind, the two of them were already friends. The next step was to get even closer and, hopefully with time, Kris would learn to be more comfortable. Or, at the very least, a bit more relaxed. He would just keep being his normal, happy self, and maybe that would rub off on his smaller companion.

"Hey now, we decided no more of that 'Sir', 'member? Save that for Charaka and Alcatraz." There was definitely more work to be done. Whether Kris liked it or not, he was stuck with Lawson as a friend.

----------
lilwyverngirl said the following:

Ah. Kris had already forgotten. It would take some getting used to when it came to leaving off titles. "Yes... Laws. Forgive me my slip." He dipped his head to the other wolf as the den site came into view.

"Until another day," Kris said to Lawson. "Thank you for your time today. Goodbye... Laws." With that, he padded on to find the wolf he had been told to seek out about becoming a Courser - Seaver.
:icondomain-of-the-wolf:

Summary: Kris'tran is new in Aryn and tries to slink out unnoticed to get a breath of fresh air away from the rest of the pack, but Lawson spots the nervous wolf and decides to make friends. Kris'tran ends up reluctantly accepts the other wolf's company and even romps through the river in a temporary loss of nervousness. He stays nervous on the trip back, but they are likely to become friends and meet again.
